Stability AI will release Stable Diffusion XL next month

Stability AI will release Stable Diffusion XL next month. Among other things, the image generation model is better at rendering hands and can still run on a modern home computer.

Stability AI announced version 0.9 on Thursday evening, with the intention of releasing version 1.0 by the middle of next month. Stable Diffusion XL has continued to evolve in the two months since the beta was announced, the maker claims.

System requirements include an Nvidia RTX 20 card or newer, with 8GB of vram. AMD cards require 16GB of vram, but AMD cards only work on Linux systems. With Nvidia cards, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are also an option. The system must in all cases have at least 16 GB of RAM. Stable Diffusion competes with, among others, Midjourney and OpenAI Dall-E for image generation.
