Dropbox shows universal AI search bar for file search across multiple apps

Dropbox has announced two AI services. The first, Dropbox AI, can scan and summarize documents and videos, among other things. The second, Dropbox Dash, is a universal AI search bar that should be used to find “all personal content” in one place.

Dropbox states that the Dash search bar works as a browser extension and should be able to find user content across a wide range of different apps and services. The company says this tool can find files in Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook, and Salesforce, among others. Dropbox calls it “a universal search bar for personal information.” According to the company, any file format can be found with this. Because this feature uses machine learning, according to the company, it gets better the more it is used.

Dropbox Dash continues with an additional feature, Stack, that allows users to personalize content from different apps in folders, or ‘Stacks’, let accommodate. In addition, according to the company, the AI should also provide suggestions of content that may also belong in such a folder, so that users do not have to search everything together manually.

Dash also contains a start page with a dashboard on which not only the search bar and various Stacks can be seen, but also links to the material the user is currently working on. For example, if they were working on a PowerPoint the previous day, a link to that PowerPoint will appear on the home page, so that users can get back to it right away.

Later it should also be possible for Dash to use your personal information and business information to answer questions and find relevant content through generative AI’. As an example, Dropbox indicates that users can ask the AI when the next company vacation is, or whatever the company strategy entails.
