‘New studio of Call of Duty veterans lays off a large number of employees’

Deviation Games, a studio founded in 2020 by two Call of Duty veterans, has reportedly laid off 90 employees. The studio is currently working on a PlayStation game commissioned by Sony.

Video Games Chronicle writes that several insiders put the number of layoffs at ninety. On social media there are a lot of ex-employees who announce that they were fired on Friday. One says that the studio “recently found itself in a difficult situation came’ and therefore had to lay off many employees. It is not known how many employees the studio had, but in 2021 there were ‘more than’ a hundred.

Deviation Games was founded in 2020 by Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell. The former was director, producer and writer of various Call of Duty games. Blundell started out as a producer of Call of Duty 3, the game that appeared in 2006. He later served as the game director of Treyarch, the studio behind the Black Ops games. Blundell already left the studio last September. A reason for his departure has not been given.

In 2021 it was announced that the studio is working on a ‘groundbreaking’ new AAA title for the PlayStation 5 on behalf of Sony. According to a former employee the game has a budget of more than $50 million. Content details about the game are not known.
