Mercedes-Benz is working with Google on navigation software for future cars

Mercedes-Benz is working with Google on its own navigation system for its future cars. The automaker uses Google Maps for this. YouTube should also become available for Mercedes Benz cars in the future.

With the collaboration Mercedes-Benz is working on a navigation software that will be released under its own brand. According to the car manufacturer, the software is based on the Google Maps platform. The system must combine information from Google with ‘the feeling’ from Mercedes. However, it is not known exactly what the software will look like.

The upcoming navigation system will be equipped with, among other things, real-time and predicted traffic information, information about locations and automatic route recalculations from Google. The company also says it uses Maps data for assisted driving functions, such as automatically adjusting driving speed for intersections, roundabouts or sharp turns.

In the future, YouTube will also become available for the automaker’s infotainment system. That app should become usable when the car is parked, or at level 3 autonomous driving. Mercedes-Benz also says it will use Google Cloud and will collaborate with the tech giant in the field of AI.

Other car manufacturers have been using Google services such as Maps via Android Auto for some time, but it is this is the first time that a car manufacturer has used Google Maps to develop its own navigation system. The integration is introduced in the forthcoming MB OS operating system from Mercedes. This Linux-based operating system should succeed the automaker’s current OS. The first cars with MB OS should be released in 2024.
