Function to track package in Gmail is available in Benelux

The function to track a package in Google’s email service Gmail is available in the Netherlands and Belgium. The feature came out a few months ago in the US. In the meantime, users in the Netherlands and Belgium can also enable the function.

The option can be found in the settings of the mailbox in the Gmail app, notifies Androidworld. The feature is off by default. Also in the iOS app, the option can be found under Data Privacy in the Settings. It is unknown when exactly Google added the option to the app in the Benelux.

The mail service retrieves the information from track-and-trace codes contained in e-mails and, based on this, displays the status of the delivery. This information is then placed in the inbox immediately below the e-mail, so that users who search for the e-mail can quickly see when the package will be delivered according to schedule.

The Dutch-language feature states that Google ‘shares the tracking codes with delivery services’ . The function works because Google scans the emails for the tracking codes and retrieves and maintains their status in the background, to display it as a status above the email.
