Microsoft has started automatically updating Windows 11 version 21H2 to 22H2. Previously, users had to download the latest version manually, but now they will be offered it automatically.
Microsoft will first offer the update to users who have been using version 21H2 the longest, writes the tech company in an update on its website. It is not clear how long it will take before everyone is offered the update. If a user’s device proves incompatible or otherwise encounters problems, the update will not be installed automatically until the problems are resolved.
Windows 11 version 22H2 released last September. In this version, the taskbar and task manager have been tinkered with, among other things. For example, after installing the update, users can open apps by dragging them to the taskbar. It also gets an overflow function, which puts apps in a separate menu if there is no more room for an icon on the taskbar. Furthermore, the design of the task manager has received a refresh and a dark mode. Since its release, it has been possible to download the latest version manually via Windows Update. Microsoft promises until October 10 2023 to support version 21H2.
