Billboard shows back of unannounced Sony Xperia 1 V

Sony seems to have placed a billboard of its Xperia 1 V smartphone in Hong Kong early. The advertisement shows that the manufacturer will emphasize the new technology of the camera sensors.

Reddit user LOL5552 spotted the billboard, but also Sumahodigest seems to be the ad have seen. The Chinese text on the image indicates that Sony will emphasize the new technology of the cameras.

This is a Lytia sensor with split-pixel-layers. The sensors differ from current models in that the transistors and photodiodes are separated for the first time in the layer of pixels. As a result, more surface area is available for the photodiodes, so that a pixel with the same surface area can capture more light. The transistors are in the new setup behind the diodes. That camera is also in the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

Earlier a rumor came out with some specs of the phone. The Xperia 1 V would have a flat 6.5 “screen like the predecessor, but the housing would be slightly smaller. Where last year’s version had dimensions of 165x71x8.2 mm, the 1 V measures about 161 x 69.3 x 8.5 mm The headphone jack, shutter button and power button with fingerprint reader, among other things, are unchanged from the predecessor.

Sony has scheduled an event for next Thursday, May 11, to announce the phone. The Xperia 1 is the manufacturer’s top model and the 1 V is its fifth generation.
